International Women's Day

Happy International Women's Day!

According to the IWD website, this day has been recognized since 1908, when 15,000 women marched in NYC for shorter work hours, equal pay, and the right to vote.

We still have many battles left to fight: "The unfortuante fact is that women are still not paid equally to that of their male counterparts, women still are not present in equal numbers in business or politics, and globally women's education, health and the violence against them is worse than that of men."

But this day has moved toward being a day devoted to celebration of how far we've come:  "We do have female astronauts and prime ministers, school girls are welcomed into university, women can work and have a family, women have real choices."

Global events ranging from conferences to rallies to craft shows and performances are meant to inspire women to connect and celebrate success.

Corporations such as Google are honoring today visually to raise awareness.

In fact, in the United States, March is Women's History Month!

Today, make a point to honor the women in your life and reflect on the work of those who have gone before us.
